What We Do Here

The beauty of cigars isn’t just in the smoke...it’s in the ritual, the memory, the lore. Each review starts with the basics: how it smokes, how it tastes, whether it’s worth lighting up again or buying a box. Then, for those chasing the full story, we peel back the layers,

deeper notes, subtleties, and the craft behind the leaf. At the end, we leave you with a little folklore to match the mood. Because around here, the smoke always carries a story.

Casual Take

This one starts out looking sharp. The Corojo wrapper is a warm café brown with a subtle rosado tint. Clean seams, light veins, nothing sloppy. It gives off a barnyard funk mixed with just a little citrus tang. Lighting it up, you're met with a smooth, creamy smoke that feels like pancake batter in texture. The draw is a little snug but not enough to ruin anything. Smoke output is fine, leaning lighter, but consistent. Flavor-wise, it leans bready and balanced. If you're newer to cigars, this one won’t beat you over the head with spice. Instead, it’s easygoing. Think graham cracker, light cream, and a whisper of pepper through the nose. Simple but satisfying.

Deep Burn

From the first puff, you can tell this cigar is built around restraint. It's not trying to prove anything. It knows what it is. Mild pepper through the retrohale creeps in slowly while the body stays light and rounded. Graham cracker notes show up early, but instead of sugary sweetness you get something drier, a little toasty. There’s a cool tartness too. Something like buttermilk or maybe a creamy yogurt tang. As you progress, you’ll notice the retrohale shifts. Less spice, more doughy texture. Like potato bread or undercooked pancakes. Smoke output stays steady, but always smooth. By the halfway point, it starts to darken a bit. The flavor condenses. You get a dry wood note; mesquite or maybe hickory, that blends with this odd maltiness. Honestly, it reminded me of wet oats that have fermented just a little. It’s weirdly enjoyable. From there, the cigar leans into those roasted, savory notes with pine sap bitterness, sourdough crust, and a touch of earthy grit. Construction stays strong throughout, with flaky ash and no touch-ups needed.

The Heart of the Leaf

Illusione’s Singularé Origen is one of those cigars that doesn’t care if it’s flashy. It’s balanced, calm, and confident. If you’re a newer smoker, this is a good one to dip into the world of Nicaraguan tobacco without overwhelming your palate. For those who’ve been around the block, it might not surprise you, but it will likely impress you with its craft and consistency. It’s not a box buy for me, but I’d grab a few more for sure. There’s something quietly memorable about it. She ranks at a 7.75, a Solid Companion. Dependable and enjoyable.

The Lore

The band on this cigar has an owl. Not just any owl either. This thing looks ancient. Like something you’d see carved into temple walls or scrawled on the inside of a tomb. And that tracks, because in ancient Egyptian mythology, owls weren’t just birds. They were omens. Watchers. Spirits tied to the night and to the unknown. The Egyptians believed owls could see what the living couldn’t. Some thought they carried messages from the underworld. Others believed they guarded the edge between this world and the next. The hieroglyph for an owl, called “m,” was tied to mystery, to mourning, to things kept quiet. You ever smoke a cigar and feel like the room’s a little quieter than before? Like maybe something else showed up when the flame hit the foot? That’s what this cigar brings. Not in a scary way, just still. Watchful. That little owl on the band doesn’t blink. And neither should you. Because some cigars just hit different. Not because of what’s in them, but because of what they remind you of. And if you feel like something’s looking back at you while you smoke it, maybe it is.

Roots and Rituals

IMG_7315.jpg

I’ve been smoking cigars for over a decade now, and living in sunny Florida means I’ve always been close to the culture, good shops, great weather, and plenty of reasons to light up. Smoke and story. Ritual and mystery. Leaf and Lore.
